injustice 2 comic review
The original Injustice ended it's story with a massive battle that jettisoned readers into the game in a spectacular way and I would have liked to see something similar with Injustice 2. Co-Publishers I won’t say that it didn’t have it’s cool moments, but I can’t say that it added to the story in any substantial way that warranted its inclusion. Believing the only way to truly save humanity from itself was to control it, Superman’s “my way or heat vision to the brain” style of rule divided the heroes of Earth and beyond, leading to an all-out civil war that left the world severely screwed up. Art by Bruno Redondo, Juan Albarran, Rex Lokus & Wes Abbott Now brutal murderer Superman and “I don’t want to fight you” Batman are back, joining forces against the most diabolical foe the DC Universe has ever faced—loot boxes. All in all, let’s just say I’m way more hyped for the game. Kara arrives on an Earth divided by her cousin’s furious angst and soon something even more sinister. It was only through researching why the series was on hiatus this week that I found out that issue seventy-two was the final installment. One, wherein, the beacon of truth and justice, Superman, becomes a tyrant bent on claiming the world as his own and eliminating all those who would oppose his rule. Superman driven by grief over the death of Lois Lane and their unborn son by the hands of the Joker. This part of the story lies in contrast to the darkness and emotional depth of the scenes with Batman and Harley, and I like that its presence is effervescent. Considering my normal play style, this is progress. Then they’ve got to make sure their character is at the right level to use the equipment. SOLDIER, Health and Inclusivity: Coming into Power with Jessi Zabarsky and WITCHLIGHT, Health and Inclusivity: The Hard Road to Peace in FAR SECTOR, Health and Inclusivity: Finding Commonality in Weaver, Lee, and Robles-Valdez’s THE UNCOMMONS, From Earth Angel to the Grave: Burying Peter David’s SUPERGIRL, REVOLUTIONARY GIRL UTENA and its Debt to Shinji Wada, A Holiday Special Edition: The Rise and Fall of TITANS’ Lian Harper, The Fall of Roy Harper: How ARSENAL’s Navajo Origins Disappeared from the Page, KIRBYOLOGY! So, let’s take a look at the important moments that happened within the comic, but were left out of the games story entirely. Aaron Long & Matt Santori Open the loot boxes you get, make your character look as cool as you can, and move on. Kara is to be his protector, as long as she doesn’t get knocked off course and forced into cryosleep for several decades. I simply expected more from the comic. While Injustice 2 would eventually come to surpass the original in terms of gameplay (also a surprise to no one), it also managed to provide a solid sequel to the original games story. So much happens, and yet none of it really does much to make it feel as though it was necessary. Injustice 2: The Kotaku Review. The main purpose of this comic is to present the audience with the events that proceeded the video game and I suppose, in the broad sense, it manages to do that. The original Injustice ended it's story with a massive battle that jettisoned readers into the game in a spectacular way and I would have liked to see something similar with Injustice 2. We have the resurrection of Alfred, the revelation that Bruce Wayne has a daughter, Aqua-lad becoming a terrorist, Conner Kent becoming the new Superman, a giant Star Fish coming to destroy Earth.. and there's still so much more. While Supes rots away in a special red sun prison cell, Batman attempts to restore civilization to something resembling normalcy. Between the original Injustice, Mortal Kombat X and now Injustice 2, no other fighting game studio tells a story as well as Netherrealm. The story was so intriguing that it spawned its own prequel comic book which ran for a whopping one hundred and seventy seven chapters - which is pretty impressive when you consider the fact that it revolves around the events preceding a video game. In addition to that, the Amazo was a genuine treat. The beats are predictable—it’s obvious from the get-go that some sort of coming together against a common foe is going to happen—but even the trite bits are carried wonderfully, thanks to a stellar voice cast and outstanding facial animations. Building upon that clumsy beginning, Boon and company have created a fighting game franchise that’s right up there with the Arkham series in the ranks of the best DC Comics games of all-time. When we last left our courageous heroes, a good half of them weren’t courageous heroes anymore. The difference between this prequel comic in comparison to the original comic is that there just seems to be a genuine disconnect from the comics and the game. The original game was lauded for it's versatile gameplay mechanics - which heavily mirrored NeatherRealms' highly successful Mortal Kombat series - and the level of detail that was put into ensuring each character retained their individual personalities and fighting styles. Injustice 2 takes characters we’ve seen through our lives and pushes them into new emotional and moral complexities. All in all, as much as I enjoyed many aspects of the Injustice 2 comic, it really doesn’t serve its purpose in the same way its predecessor does. While I won't go as far as to say it's better than the original, I will say that it definitely managed to keep me entertained, which I can’t help but give praise to, given the fact that I didn’t necessarily have high hopes for it to begin with - especially with how great (and final) the ending of the original game was. Each Multiverse event presents a series of battles with special modifiers. Shelves: comics, comics-tom-taylor, comics-dc-other Another great volume of “Injustice 2.” I’m actually running out of things to say about this series: Tom Taylor is delivering, for my money, the best ongoing series that DC is currently publishing. And those super moves are just as super as they were the first time around, if not more so. Freed from the Joker’s thrall for good, Harley Quinn works a computer in Bruce Wayne’s hideout, wearing a bat symbol on the back of her jacket. The mix of new moves for old characters and a healthy injection of fresh talent—there are 15 new characters in Injustice 2, not counting DLC fighters—leads to a more even playing field for online play. The Clash system returns, allowing players to bet a portion of their super meter against their opponent in order to regain some of their health or do a little damage. Though, the Dark Knight now has a new ally in the form of Harley Quinn. Nicholas Thompson is the lead writer and senior editor for “COMICS! The idea of Batman having to release Superman and put aside their issues in order to save their world is a recipe for an excellent story.. however, the build up to it (especially in the form of seventy-two chapters worth of storytelling) doesn’t quite work as well. They’re not too bad at the actual fighting bits, either. The fate of the Earth and the resolution of the superhero conflict established in the first Injustice game plays out in Injustice 2's rather lengthy story mode. It’s still an awesome feature, even if it could have been so much more. He had become the sort of heavy-handed world dictator Batman has nightmares about in bad live-action movies. Superman is the strongest being on Earth, and it would make sense (simply given the nature of comic-books) that there would eventually come a time where the new Justice League (composed mostly of non-super powered individuals) would face a threat that they would not be able to handle on their own. Batman and Superman may be … As if the planet didn’t have enough problems, Brainiac arrives to finish off his Kryptonian collection. In addition to working as a redemption arc for Hal, it also served to help redeem Sinestro to an extent, as he managed to make amends with his estranged daughter before dying in combat. The Good: Given that the game is a fighting game some may be surprised that Injustice 2 Annual #2 is not the action packed conclusion to this comic book series. While others might enjoy the depth, creating special items sets to maximize certain stats over others, I’ve found the character customization system works best when you don’t think about it too much. Starro was destroyed - and Booster along with him; Brainiac was on Earth and ready to find the two remaining Kryptonians; Wonder Woman, Supergirl, and Black Adam we’re back in Khadaq, and Batman and his allies were living their normal lives - whatever that entails. Just watch Harley’s mouth as she chews bubblegum and scenery in one of the game’s earlier chapters. So much so, that when I read the final issue, I wasn't aware that it was, in fact, the final issue. It didn’t serve as some sort of catalyst in the way John Stewart’s death forced Hal to kill Guy and fully embrace the power of the Yellow Ring. The first, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, was a solid if awkward attempt to marry two properties that didn’t have very much in common. INJUSTICE 2 #1 Written by Tom Taylor Art by Bruno Redondo, Juan Albarran, Rex Lokus & Wes Abbott Published by DC Comics Release Date: May 3, 2017. Granted, there’s plenty that happens in the original Gods Among Us comic that didn’t factor into the games’ story, but it, at least, used each year of that comic served to explain why certain characters were behaving the way that they were, as well as why other characters weren’t present in the story.
